Is Buying a Reconditioned Elliptical Trainer a Good Idea?

!±8± Is Buying a Reconditioned Elliptical Trainer a Good Idea?

Given the choice, most people would love to have a brand new elliptical at home. But the cost of these machines mean that many people have to settle for a used or a reconditioned elliptical trainer.

Getting a reconditioned elliptical can be a huge cost saving. You can get this type of machine from some of the manufacturers and from specialist fitness equipment stores. These are typically units that have been used by other customers but have been restored to good working order and any necessary parts replaced.

If they have been refurbished by qualified and knowledgeable staff, there is no reason why these machines cannot go on and give a good level of service for you.

However, there is a downside to buying a refurbished elliptical trainer. Some units have been refurbished because of frequent use, say in a professional gym. Although the necessary parts have been replaced to get it working, the machine maybe more likely to breakdown in the future due to another mechanical fault.

The other downside that many people do not consider is how the market has moved on. Elliptical trainers are getting better all the time. They are quieter and have a smoother action. What may have been considered a 'top of the range' model a few years ago has now been superseded by many others. Would you be better off buying a brand new mid-range unit and getting the same level of performance compared to a refurbished elliptical trainer?

A factor that may be the clincher as to whether you choose a refurbished elliptical trainer or not, is whether it comes with a warranty. A good quality new machine will come with the peace of mind of a 2-year warranty. A refurbished model may only come with a short guarantee or no guarantee at all. This is often an indication of how confident the retailer is that the machine will last. If they are not willing to take a risk on the machine not breaking down, why should you?

Renting an Elliptical Machine - The Ideal Fitness Solution

!±8± Renting an Elliptical Machine - The Ideal Fitness Solution

The majority of people would love to get fit but the cost of fitness equipment puts them off. There is a solution. Renting an elliptical machine will allow you to own an excellent quality machine but at a price that you can afford.

With top of the range elliptical trainers costing ,000 or more, it's no wonder that many people are looking for affordable alternatives to buying. Many people resort to getting a used or refurbished machine. But few people realise that there is another way to get a beautiful machine in your home, without having to fork out an 'arm and a leg'. Renting an elliptical machine and other fitness equipment is becoming a more popular option.

You can find specialist firms that will rent out machines in your area by going through the Yellow pages or looking on the Internet. Expect to pay somewhere in the region of to 0 a month depending on the quality of the elliptical that you have.

Another big benefit of renting an elliptical machine is that you know that you are not stuck with it. Many people start a new fitness regime in January with the best of intentions. But by the end of February they have abandoned their goals and by March the fitness equipment is stuffed away in a closet. If you rented you wouldn't have to worry about all the wasted expense that you have had.

Renting an elliptical machine also allows you to trade up when you are ready. You may decide that after using your elliptical that you love using it so much that you want a higher specification machine. This is easy to do if you have a rental plan. The company can just come and change the machine and you can settle up the difference in price.

How to Use an Elliptical Trainer to Lose Weight

!±8± How to Use an Elliptical Trainer to Lose Weight

OK, you know that you need to lose a few pounds, but where do you start? You could go jogging, but that's a bit boring. Weights are another option, but you want to lose some inches not build muscle. Let me give you a tip. Using an elliptical trainer to lose weight is fun and suitable for all ages and levels of fitness.

There are a number of reasons why an elliptical machine is one of the best pieces of equipment to help you shift some excess pounds. It has a smooth gentle action, so there is no pressure on the joints as with jogging or using a treadmill. The machine exercises the arms at the same time as the legs. This helps to burn more calories and is therefore more effective than an exercise bike.

If you are buying an elliptical for home use, you should get one that has a heart rate monitor. This will help you gauge the level of exercise intensity that you need to reach to get into the 'fat burning zone'. If you are using equipment in a gym this will most certainly already be on the machine. The most common type has a hand grip sensor. But a more accurate type is a belt sensor that will fit around the chest.

To burn off the calories you should be aiming to use your elliptical trainer 4-5 times per week for a period of 20-30 minutes. This type of approach to exercise could be described as 'little and often'. It's much better than trying to do a one and half hour marathon once a week. If you have not exercised for some time, then ease yourself into it and build up the number of times that you exercise. You may need to check with your doctor to make sure that you are on the right track.

All but the very cheapest models have a variety of exercise programs built into their computers. This is one of the biggest benefits of using an elliptical trainer for weight loss. There is enough variety and enjoyment to make sure you stick with your exercise program and not abandon it after a few weeks.

About Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Best Places to Buy an Elliptical Trainer

!±8± Best Places to Buy an Elliptical Trainer

If you want to take advantage of the health benefits of an elliptical trainer, there are a number of different places where you can buy one. Your decision on where to make your purchase will depend on a number of factors. Making the right decision could save you a lot of money and help you ensure that you get the correct machine.

To get the best prices available, the best place to look is online. There are numerous companies that can offer products direct to the public and therefore have lower overheads. The savings can then be passed onto you. You can visit the websites of all the big name manufacturers including Smooth fitness, Nautilus, Precor and Reebok. This will give you a great background on the range of products available. But there is one ingredient missing. You can't try out the product in advance.

If you go to a fitness superstore, such as Busybody Home Fitness, then you will be able to see the equipment up close and try it out before you buy. This way there will be no nasty surprises when you unwrap it at home. You know that it is suitable for your body height and it looks just the way you want it.

Of course you can always look at fitness equipment in a store and then go and buy it online. This is one way of getting the best of both worlds.

If you are looking for a budget priced elliptical trainer, you should try some other places too. Check out eBay to see if anyone no longer needs their fitness equipment and is selling it cheap. You can also try Craigslist and local papers to find bargains in your area. You would be surprised at what some people throw away. Just be sure to test out any second hand equipment to make sure that it works properly.

Why Do I Get Numb Feet on My Elliptical Trainer?

!±8± Why Do I Get Numb Feet on My Elliptical Trainer?

You've got yourself a nice little exercise routine that you are happy with. You use an elliptical trainer, which burns up the calories and keeps you in shape. The only problem is that when you have been on the machine for 20-30 minutes, you start getting numb feet. What can you do?

First of all, you'll be relieved to hear that you are not alone. There are plenty of other people that have had this problem, but most do not mention it. It feels like your feet have 'gone to sleep' or that you have the sensation of 'pins and needles'. You maybe familiar with this if you have been standing in one place for a long time or you go to sleep on your arm and your arm 'goes dead'.

The cause is the same as in these cases. The odd sensations come from the nerves in that area of the body. This is in response to a lack of blood circulation. Essentially the body is trying to tell you to get more blood to the area. It seems funny that you should have a lack of circulation when you are exercising but this can happen if you feet are kept in the same position on the machine. It's a bit like standing still in one place for a long time.

There are a number of things that you can do to combat numb feet on your elliptical. First try to vary your foot position as you use the machine. You could use a 'heel to toe' action that varies the pressure on different parts of the foot. You can also split your workout up into sessions of going forwards and in reverse. This also has the advantage of using different muscles.

Some people have found some relief by loosening their shoelaces or removing their trainers altogether and just exercising in their socks. Different machines can also be of benefit. Ellipticals that have articulating footpads allow a more natural movement of the foot that can help blood flow. Some people have also found that using a machine with an incline ramp also seems to help.

By using these tips you should be able to get back to enjoying your elliptical trainer workout without the inconvenience of numb feet.
